Redraw the small, blurry faces in a group photo so they look natural — the back row of a class photo, guests far from the camera, or a crowd after you enlarge it.

Small face enhancement finds the faces in a photo that are only a few dozen pixels tall and redraws each one, with eyes, a nose and a mouth that fit the photo. Faces that are already large in the frame are left as they are.

A face drawn, not recovered

A face a few dozen pixels tall holds too little to say who it is, so the face you get back is drawn to fit the photo rather than recovered from it. It looks natural; it may not look like the person. Don’t use it for a face somebody needs to identify, and look at each face before you share the result.

Ways to run it

After Enhance

Enlarging a group photo with Enhance makes everything sharper, and a face that was a few pixels across in the photo comes out larger but still smeared. Run the enlarged photo through Small face enhancement next, and those faces are redrawn. The hikers above went through both:

Another drawing of the same faces

The seed setting picks one drawing out of the many Small face enhancement could make. The same photo and seed always give the same faces, and a different seed gives differently drawn ones. Change it and run again if a face doesn’t look right.

The file you get back

output format on auto returns the type of file you sent where it can, and otherwise a JPEG or a PNG. quality decides how much detail a JPEG or WebP result keeps.
